Federation Director and Business Manager at The Bay Medical Practice

I am currently the Business Manager for The Bay Medical Practice, previously being the Practice Manger a Shanklin Medical Centre from 2007 until merging to form The Bay Medical Practice in April 2020.

Prior to starting my career in the NHS I spent ten years working in one of the largest event management, best practice and communications companies in Europe. As part of the UK division Board Leadership Team my remit also included finance, contract negotiation, human resources and the day to day functionality of the UK office.

Having been a founding Director of One Wight Health Limited, I returned to the Board in September 2021 where I am looking forward to working with our membership to develop opportunities to ensure a sustainable and progressive healthcare service across the Isle of Wight.

With a daily commute from the mainland by hovercraft and car it certainly adds an unusual twist to the start and end of each day, of which no two are the same. When not working, you will find me either in the garden, renovating my house, glued to the F1 or enjoying time away.

Social Prescribers
There are ten social prescribers working across the Isle of Wight.

People visit their GPs for a range of different reasons and sometimes these issues can be caused by underlying non-medical matters such as loneliness, anxiety, unemployment, illness, or debt and sometimes a medical prescription is not the best solution.

A social prescriber works with patients and their families to explore and help them access a range of local community services that provide practical or emotional support and guidance of a non-medical nature.

The role is hugely varied and rewarding with opportunities to make a difference and improve the health and wellbeing of people in the community and enable people to remain independent and live their best lives.

Working alongside the practice team, social prescribers can help free up the capacity of other healthcare professionals to help patients in need of medical support.

Health and Wellbeing Coaches
There are Health and Wellbeing Coaches across the Isle of Wight, with 4 specialising in Chronic Pain

Health and wellbeing coaches engage with people to support them in taking an active role in their health, providing advice and support for both patients and colleagues.

They take a holistic approach helping people to identify difficulties or issues in all areas of their life and helping them find solutions and lifestyle changes that mean they can lead happy and fulfilled lives.

Health and wellbeing coaches can also play a key role in helping to tackle health inequalities.
