GP Career Development

You’ve chosen to work in general practice on the Isle of Wight and we consider ourselves very fortunate that you live and work here within our healthcare system.

We want to ensure that your time here on the Island gives you as many opportunities as possible to develop your career, regardless of which stage you have reached. Whether you are just starting out as a GP registrar, whether you are a new salaried or GP partner mid-career or whether you are nearing retirement. We want to be able to give you the support you need to make choices about how you can develop a rewarding and fulfilling career.

Whilst every attempt has been made to include a wide range of roles and example links, these are not intended to be an exhaustive list, rather to act as a guide to help GPs considering their next career step. In addition, not all roles identified can be carried out on or from the Island, but we wanted to provide the fullest picture possible to help you consider your career choices.

We have put together a ‘road map’ to further career opportunities where you can find information about a wide range of possible career enhancements and opportunities to take on additional roles and areas of interest. Within each section you’ll also find helpful links to information sources that can help you explore these roles in more detail.
