What We Do

We exist as a federation to support our member GP practices to help them deliver the best possible care to patients on the Island.

Our Approach

We aim to do that by providing centralised services that enable GPs to enhance their offer of support to patients.

We also provide direct support to GPs and practice staff to enable them to develop, lead and manage their practices more effectively and efficiently on a day-day basis. For example, providing training and education, recruitment support, resources, access to specialist roles and sharing best practice.

We also help bid for and secure additional funding from the NHS, where it becomes available, to help support new initiatives that help practices to meet their patients’ care needs and we work to support general practice/primary care, to make sure it has a voice within the wider healthcare system as it develops plans for the future care for our population.

GP & GP Practice support

GP Recruitment – We provide support to GP practices to assist with the recruitment of GPs and other practice and primary care roles for both permanent and temporary staff and GP locums.

GP Practice Support – We provide additional support to practices to help them overcome challenges including access to specialist roles, helping seek funding support for new initiatives, facilitating collaboration and best practice sharing between practices and brokering discounts and other benefits which may aid GP and practice staff recruitment and retention.

Leading and Supporting Innovation – As the population of the UK lives longer with more long-term conditions, the demand on Primary Care increases at an average of 14 million consultations per year. On the Island we have been working with our practices to find innovative ways of ensuring our patients receive safe, timely, appropriate and effective care.

Supporting Primary Care Networks – We are also providing support to our members to help develop local Primary Care Networks as part of the Government’s GP Contract Reform to implement the NHS Long Term Plan.

Primary Care Networks are groups of general practices working together with a range of local providers, including across primary care, community services, social care and the voluntary sector, to offer more personalised, coordinated health and social care to their local populations.

From sharing lessons learnt from other areas, to providing ongoing guidance, our role and support will develop over the course of this process to suit the requirements of our local networks. More information about Primary Care Networks can be found here
